The hype aroundResident Evil Villagebefore launch seemingly translated to sales numbers as the 8th installment in theResident Evilseries shipped over 5 million copies.Monster Hunter Risehas also done very well for Capcom with theMonster Huntertitle selling 5 million copiesas of last April. With huge games such as these, it makes sense that Capcom will want to continue supporting them, potentially hoping to garner an even larger audience.
A few months ago, Capcom announced that it hasstarted development on additional DLC forResident Evil Village. And just last month, Capcom also announced thatMonster Hunter Rise: Sunbreakwill be additional content that will be released sometime in Summer 2022. During an Integrated Report from Capcom, it revealed that it has free DLC forMonster Hunter RiseandResident Evil Villagein the works.Monster Hunter Risehas already received several updates since launch that were free. It’s possible that Capcom will continue to add some more free content before the release ofSunbreaksuch as new quests or the addition of new gear.Resident Evil Villagehas not had the same treatment though. At this time, it’s not known what kind of free DLC will be making its way toResident Evil Village. Since DLC was confirmed to be in development back in July, many assumed the additional content will be paid. It’s possible that both paid and free DLC is on the way.
This wouldn’t be the first timeResident Evilreceived free updates, though.Resident Evil 7had the Not A Hero free DLCthat saw players take control of Chris Redfield after the events ofResident Evil 7. It’s possible that the DLC forResident Evil Villagewill also include something along these lines where Chris will once again become playable.
The announcement of free additional content forResident Evil Villageis exciting. Throughout the game, players take control of Ethan Winters, while Chris Redfield is embarking on his own quest in the background. If the free DLC has players take control of Chris Redfield again, this could potentially fill in the gaps on where he was and what he was doing while Ethan Winters is roaming the village.
Alternatively, towards the end of the game, several new plot points are revealed that could also be the focus of the additional content. That all being said, it’s not confirmed how large this free DLC forResident Evil Villagewill be. Additionally, likeResident Evil 7, it’s more than likely that paid story DLCs will also be released forResident Evil Village. Anew announcement forResident Evilis planned for todayso it’s possible we’ll learn more soon.
Resident Evil Villageis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
