Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2will be innovating in some exciting ways, as proximity chat could lead to entertaining scenarios, the new ledge hang mechanic can add a fresh dynamic to gunfights, and Gunsmith 2.0 looks like a significant improvement over the original version. However, one area thatInfinity Wardand Activision have not yet detailed is the game’s Seasons, leaving fans to speculate about what they will entail.
It can be assumed that the Seasons featured inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2will be comparable to those included in the other modernCall of Dutygames, focusing more on an evolving story and new Operators as opposed to a specific theme. However, it could be argued that a dedicated theme was recently tested withinCall of Duty: VangurdandCall of Duty: Warzone, and embracing the approach could lead to some interesting gameplay updates alongside unlockable cosmetics.

Themed Seasons Would Make Sense For Call of Duty
Call of Duty: Warzone’s ongoing Season 5 is the best example of a themed Season for the series thus far, as the battle pass and bundles focus closely on the franchises’ antagonists. Raul Menendez fromCall of Duty: Black Ops 2appears, Al-Asad from the originalModern Warfarejoins the roster, and the Specialist Seraph fromBlack Ops 3and4makes her presence known. EvenRorke fromCall of Duty: Ghostshas made the cut, with the series abandoning a logical story in favor of a nostalgia-fueled celebration of its evil masterminds.
Perhaps this Season was a teaser of what’s to come withCall of Duty: Warzone 2, as Activision may have been seeing how players respond to a Season with a clearer theme. Further, another major Activision Blizzard title,Overwatch 2, is embracing themes for its battle passes. The firstOverwatch 2battle passwill have a Cyberpunk theme, with a majority of the items players can unlock being futuristic in nature. Perhaps a similar approach will now be taken withCall of Duty’s battle passes, with Activison and Infinity Ward taking inspiration fromOverwatch 2to embrace a clear focus instead of a random assortment of items.
Potential Themed Seasons For Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone
IfCall of Dutywere to have themed Battle Passes, the sky is the limit for what could be done with the content. General themes like the old west, steampunk, and fantasy could all work. A summer theme could be entertaining, too, and it could see Infinity Ward playing up the fact thatCaptain Price was declared the hottest male video game character. Seeing Ghost’s swimsuit would be hard to pass up on, too, as the signature mask would have to be kept. Beyond that, Battle Passes themed around older games likeCall of Duty: GhostsorCall of Duty: Infinite Warfarecould be fun, with players getting access to a Blueprint that resembles the Honey Badger or another with Black Sky camo.
An obvious theme for a battle pass would beCall of DutyZombies, and given how dedicated fans of the mode are, it would likely sell even more than the usual battle passes. Not only would Calling Cards and Emblems be more interesting, as they could feature gear and Wonder Weapons like the Monkey Bomb and Ray Gun, but skins based on classic characters like Tank Dempsey could be exciting. There have already been some stellar Wonder Weapon blueprints thus far, too, so adding a few of these to the Battle Pass would make it especially attractive.
IfCall of Dutyembraces Seasons with dedicated themes, it could move beyond cosmetics to give each Season a distinct identity. For example, the aforementioned Zombies Season could come with multiplayer maps that transform Zombies locations like Kino Der Toten into a 6v6 play space. Buried could be added toCall of Duty: Warzone2’s new desert map Al Mazrah, and a Wonder Weapon like the RAI-K 84 could become unlockable as well. A futuristic Season could provide high-tech guns and maps, while an old west Season could see player battling through a Saloon point of interest inWarzone. Instead of focusing on Operators and trying to tell an extended story withModern Warfare 2’s Seasons, Activision could fully embrace some wacky themes.
