At San Diego Comic-Con, Activision announces thatCall of Duty: Infinite Warfarepre-orders will come with a remake of the Terminal map fromModern Warfare 2.

With 12 main series games in total, theCall of Dutyfranchise has featured hundreds of different multiplayer maps. A handful of these maps even became popular enough to be remade for futureCall of Dutygames, like themany iterations of Nuketown, for instance. Another one of the franchise’s most popular maps, Terminal, has also been seen in multipleCall of Dutygames, and now it’s been confirmed for the next entry in the series as well.

Activision made this announcement earlier today during theCall of Duty: Infinite Warfarepanel at San Diego Comic-Con. It also confirmed that the only way to get the Terminal map is by pre-orderingCall of Duty: Infinite Warfare, though pre-ordering any version of the game will do.

Returning players that decide to pre-orderInfinite Warfarewill discover that Terminal is not quite the same as they remember. Instead of being set in an airport on Earth, the new Terminal is set on the moon, and features spaceships instead of airplanes. Despite this major aesthetic difference, the layout of the map should generally be the same, but we’ll have to see it in action to be sure.

By bringing back a beloved map like Terminal, it seems as though Activision is trying to appeal toCallof Dutyveterans that may have lost interest in the franchise. Many fans seem to have lost interest thanks to the next game’sfuturistic science-fiction setting, which has been blamed forInfinite Warfare’s announcement trailer becomingone of the most disliked videos on YouTube. Those disgruntled fans may be swayed if Activision is able to appeal to them using nostalgia with the new Terminal map.

In fact, nostalgia seems to be the primary way Activision is trying to sellInfinite Warfare. For example, one of the first things announced forInfinite Warfarewas the fact that special editions of the game came bundled with the highly anticipatedCall of Duty 4remaster, perhaps suggesting that Activision itself wasn’t confident thatInfinite Warfarewould sell on its own.

Regardless,Call of Dutyenthusiasts that haven’t abandoned the series are sure to enjoy these throwbacks. BetweenModern Warfare Remasteredand the new version of Terminal,Infinite Warfarefeatures plenty of nods to the series past – even if its full-blown sci-fi setting may seem nothing like classicCall of Duty.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfarewill be available on June 13, 2025 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
