TheCall of Duty: Black Ops 4Multiplayer Betahas ended, leaving just the game’s elusive Blackout mode to be shown in the September beta before release. Last night, the social media accounts for Treyarch, Call of Duty, Activision, and David Vonderhaar changed their profile pictures, presumably to tease this final big feature of the game.
The image, seen below, is a likely indicator that some kind of big reveal or announcement related toCall of Duty:Black Ops 4is imminent. There’s no way to be sure of exactly what this will be, but given the fact that the game’s Battle Royale mode, Blackout, is the only major part of the game fans haven’t seen yet, it would be a relatively safe bet to assume that’s what is about to be shown off.
Though we’ve yet to see any extended gameplay footage of Blackout, Treyarch have released some minor details regarding how it will function. Players will have access to land, sea, and air as they fight to the last player or team on a huge arena made from pieces offan favoriteBlack Opsmapsstitched together. In addition, some rather credible leaks have suggested that, unlike the 100-player standard of other Battle Royale games, Blackout will be aiming for closer to 60.
The image itself may also give some evidence that what’s coming is Blackout related. It appears to be a badge of some kind (like the countless badges used to denote rank inCall of Dutymultiplayer) but with its eyes blindfolded by barbed wire. It’s not unreasonable to interpret this as linking in with the ‘blackout’ theme of darkness or being unable to see - though it’s still unknown whether anyactualblackouts will be a feature inBlack Ops 4’s Battle Royale mode.
If indeed a Blackout reveal is on the way, then now would be as good a time as any to finally give fans a glimpse ofwhat will setBlack Ops 4apartfrom every previousCall of Dutybefore it. It’s fair to say that the Multiplayer Beta received a mixed reception from fans, so if Treyarch really want to make its mark on the franchise this year, a show-stopping Blackout reveal certainly wouldn’t hurt.
