Majors was cast in the role of Kang, with aLokidirector asserting thatMajors was the perfect choice to play Kang’s many variants. Majors' appearances inLokiandAnt-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniawere well received, and he seemed set for a lucrative and successful career portraying the villain for several more years until he was accused of and subsequently detained on counts of assault, strangulation, and harassment. Speaking toInverseabout the situation,Captain America4star Anthony Mackie appealed for the due process regarding the allegations.
“We’re a country that was built on ‘everyone is innocent until proven guilty.’ That’s one of the staples of this country,” Mackie said during his response. “Nothing has been proven about this dude. Nothing. So everyone is innocent until proven guilty. That’s all I can say. It’s crazy where we are as a society. But as a country, everyone is innocent until proven guilty.” While Mackie’s call for level heads certainly has some merit, the appearance ofmore alleged abuse victims coming forward following Majors’ arresthas made the public sentiment on the matter more difficult to keep objective.
While Mackie is the first Marvel associate to speak out about the situation, his employer’s official stance has been known for a while, withMarvel Studios reportedly not discussing replacing Majorsdespite other companies and government agencies he’d done ad work for doing so. With the court date set for August 3rd, the company is either following Mackie’s plea for due process or weighing their investment in the actor, who was scheduled for at least 2 more films.
