Destiny 2players have stumbled upon yet another bug that is causing an old Exotic weapon to deal an absurd amount of damage against rank-and-file enemies. Bugs are part and parcel of game development, and Bungie is no stranger to handling such nuisances. In recent times, however,Destiny 2’s Exotic weapon-related bugshave become a pain point for Bungie, and the launch ofLightfallexpansion has only exacerbated the issue further.
Exotic weapons inDestiny 2are vastly different from Legendary weapons and offer a unique spin on its gameplay. In addition to an increased level of lethality, these uniquely decorated weapons offer exclusive traits and abilities that either augment a play style or create entirely new build archetypes altogether.Destiny 2boasts well over a hundred unique Exotic weapons, which presents a challenge from a game balance perspective. Adding to that isDestiny 2’s ever-increasing roster of Legendary weaponsthat need constant balancing, which further compounds the issue of allocating development time and eventually leads to unwanted bugs and glitches.

In theextensive weapon-tuning blog forDestiny 2: Lightfall, the developers announced that Grenade Launchers would receive a respective 20% and 40% damage buff against major and minor combatants once the expansion launches. However, some players have realized that the Fighting Lion Grenade Launcher fromDestiny 2’s Red War campaign has seemingly received a much more significant damage buff. As YouTuber Ehroar demonstrated in their video about the Exotic weapon, it’s currently dealing upwards of 200,000 points of damage against rank-and-file enemies, which indicates that Fighting Lion is dealing a staggering 15 times more damage than intended.
As a standard response to bugs such as these, manyDestiny 2players have incorporated the overpowered weapon into their loadouts, while others have begun to speculate the possible reasons behind the weapon’s erratic behavior. While the weapon archetype did receive a damage buff across the board, no other Breech-Loaded Grenade Launcher is dealing such an absurd amount of damage. While Fighting Lion’s increased lethality is limited against red bar enemies, it can still cause a problem in the upcoming World’s First Raid challenge. This particular caveat can see the weapon becoming disabled in its entirety until the Raid race is over or the arrival of the patch that fixes the bug.
This isn’t even thefirst Exotic weapon damage bug to affectDestiny 2: Lightfallsince the launch of the expansion. As players begin to test more and more weapons for the upcoming Day One Raid, many other bugs and unwanted interactions may be discovered. Players can only hope for Bungie to keep an eye out and quickly fix them before further damage can be caused.
Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
