One of the brand new features introduced inAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsis the inclusion of tool durability. While some find this new feature interesting, others find it irritating for a tool to break while they’re in the middle of doing something else. However, some players have discovered a way to prevent tools from breaking in the first place.
All tools except for the ladder and vaulting pole inAnimal Crossing: New Horizonscan break. This includes even therare and illustrious Golden Toolsthat can be obtained and crafted late-game. This can make fishing trips and island excursions frustrating, especially for players who want to keep their rarer tools.

Method 1 - Customization Kits
The first method to upkeep tools won’t cause tools to become indestructible, but it will repair any damage previously done to them. This can be done viaplayers customizing their toolsat a tool bench using a customization kit.
By customizing a tool,Animal Crossing: New Horizonswill consider it to be a different and brand new item, thus resetting its uses. This is great for players who don’t want to lug around extra materials or tools as well as players who don’t want to get rid of an even fancier tool.

Method 2 - Co-Op Exploit
Withthe recent Nintendo Switch 10.0.0 update, players now have the ability to perform custom button mapping for their Joy-cons. With this, a new exploit was discovered for players looking for more materials without worrying about tools.
By mapping the Joy-consso that two characters can be controlledwith separate Joy-cons, players can have another player character that’s moved on the island to act as a “leader” or “follower.” Players that are playing as a “follower” cannot have their tools destroyed, even as they take damage. However, in exchange, only the leader can pick up objects and animals such as fish and bugs that were caught by followers will be automatically put in the recycle bin in Resident Services.
This exploit can also be pulled off without remapping controls by simply having another player who has an account on the Nintendo Switch just join up and harvest things with the first player. Either way, it’s handy.
Animal Crossing: New Horizonsis available now, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
