Fans ofAnimal CrossingandDoomhave beensharing crossover memes onlinefor months in anticipation of Nintendo’sAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsand id Software’sDoom Eternalcoming out on the same day, March 20. That day is here, and to celebrate the occasion self-proclaimed “3D Hobbiest” Andrei Mishanin posted a video to Twitter depicting Isabelle and Tom Nook joining Doomguy as members of a heavy metal band called DOOMANIMAL.

Naturally the song these video game characters are playing is ‘BFG Division,’ one of composer Mick Gordon’s original songs on theDoom (2016)soundtrack. Together with them on stage is the Dark-type specialist and rival Marnie fromPokemon SwordandShield, herself the sister of a punk rock singer. That game’s female protagonist Gloria and a young trainer in an Eevee outfit are among a number ofAnimal Crossingvillagers waving red lights in the concert’s mosh pit.

Not long after it was posted on Thursday, the officialDoomTwitter account responded to the Russian artist’s crossover simply saying “thank you.” The video is honestly something to be thankful for, if for no other reason than it gracing the Internet with an image ofAnimal Crossing’s resident sweetheart Isabelle demolishing a drum set as Tom Nook idly hits notes on his keyboard.

TheAnimal CrossingandDoomcrossover culture which has amplified itself over the last few months has not gone unnoticed.New Horizons' director Aya Kyogoku and producer Hisashi Nogami recentlypraised the intermingling fandoms, “in awe” of their creativity. Seeing all of the crossover art can certainly be listed as a bright spot with much of the world in quarantine due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Of course ripping and tearing through demons in hell is cathartic in its own right, but the calm, relaxing nature ofAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsseems to have more of a foothold online. The newestAnimal Crossinghas already toppledLeague of Legendsas the second most-watched game on Twitch — at least momentarily.

Mishanin’s video has perfectly encapsulated the zeitgeist around the two disparate games' concurrent popularity, and it’s a good showcase of their 3D modeling work available on sites like ArtStation that span the gaming world fromFinal FantasytoMega ManandHorizon Zero Dawn. WithDoom Eternal’s director already imagining what’s next, no doubt there will be plenty more opportunities for great crossovers in the future.

Animal Crossing: New Horizonsis available now on the Nintendo Switch.
