Rumors of Andrew Garfield returning to hisSpider-Manrole may not be true, according to the actor himself. Following an appearance onThe Tonight Show, Garfield continues to deny that he is involved inSpider-Man: No Way Home.
Garfield has been rumored to be a part ofSpider-Man: No Way Homefor months, along with Tobey Maguire. Fans of the web-shooting hero have continued to hope that Maguire, Garfield, and current Spider-Man, Tom Holland, will all appear in Marvel Studios' thirdSpider-Maninstallment, but Garfield continues to dodge rumors.

A reportedly leaked photo showed Garfield and Maguire on what appeared to bethe set ofSpider-Man: No Way Home. Both men were seen wearing their respective Spider-Man suits and the photo has since been scrubbed from the internet. While being interviewed by Jimmy Fallon, Garfield was asked about the photograph. Garfield first downplayed the photo as he and Fallon continued to exchange jokes. Fallon then asked if Garfield has seen the photo, which Garfield first shrugs off before asking if he could see it. He later recants and insists that he heard and saw the reported photo, but insists that it was photoshopped.
In an attempt to move past the rumors, Garfield mentions that he has seenthe trailer forSpider-Man: No Way Homeand that he is very excited to see the film. He goes on to say that he thinks “Tom Holland is the perfect Peter Parker and Spider-Man,” and that he can’t wait to see what the film brings. As a known fan of the web-slinging hero, Garfield tells Fallon that he is happy to just be a fan again and join in with others who criticize the hero’s choices and costume designs.
Garfield began playing the spider hero inThe Amazing Spider-Manin 2012, but his time was cut short after Disney and Sony agreed to co-produce newSpider-Manfilms. Following the release of theNo Way Hometrailer, fans were hopeful that they would receive confirmation of the rumors surrounding the film. The trailer doesn’t highlight many returning faces outright, but it does feature enough clues to suggest the return of not only Garfield and Maguire but some of their formidable opponents as well. Among the hints found in the trailer is a surge of yellow electro-energy that many believe belongs toJaime Foxx’s Electro. Foxx previously played the villain in Garfield’sAmazing Spider-Man 2in 2014.
As anticipated as the thirdSpider-Manis, there is plenty of room for fans to be let down should certain stars fail to appear. Garfield asserts that he is trying to diffuse rumors because he wants to manage the expectations surrounding the film. Withthe trailer confirming that Alfred Molina’s Doc Ockwill appear inNo Way Home, many fans believe that it also confirms Maguire’s involvement. They believe Molina’s Doc Ock wouldn’t be as familiar with Holland’s Peter Parker as he would with Maguire’s. If Foxx’s Electro appears (as the trailer suggests), an appearance from Garfield is still possible. While Garfield will likely continue to deny that he’s involved with the film and might be telling the truth, only time will tell.
