Its popularity has even inspired a sequel namedSons of the Forestrumored for release in late 2021. This sequel aims to capture the same aspects of the original while fleshing out the story even further. This not only adds to the already deep lore but also clarifies elements from its predecessor. WhileThe Forest’sstory is complete there were many questions without definite answers.
6Did Timmy Survive?
The story ofThe Forestfollows the protagonist Eric LeBlanc in the search for his lost son Timmy. It is a long and perilous search but eventually, players will find Timmy in an abandoned Sahara Laboratory. Unfortunately, he will be lying dead inside the Resurrection Obelisks. Following this discovery players have two choices: revive Timmy at the cost of another child or accept his fate and move on.
While the latter is less morbid it is likely the non-canon option. The first ending reveals that Timmy survives the resurrection and even reaches adulthood. However, he still experiences adverse effects leaving his health in question. A popular theory is that Timmy not only survives but he isthe main protagonistofSons of the Forestsearching for a cure.

5Who Were The Ancient Ones?
Tribes of cannibals and mutant creatures are strange elements ofThe Forestbut the most perplexing are the Ancient Ones. These beings once inhabited the peninsula though are now absent. The only sign of the Ancient One’s existence is the magical artifacts present on the island. While the exact history of the Ancient Ones is unknown there are many theories regarding their origin.

The most popular theories fall into two categories: supernatural and scientific. The supernatural ideas claim that the Ancient Ones were druids while scientific theories believe they are aliens. Moreover, some believe they became cannibals after an unfortunate incident. However, onlySons of the Forestcan provide clear answers to the peninsula’s original inhabitants.
4What Are The Cannibals?
The first enemies that players encounter inThe Forestare the cannibals. These monstrous-looking humans are the peninsula’s only inhabitants aside from the mutants. They are primitive beings that have been on the island long before Eric LeBlanc and even Sahara Therapeutics arrived. Despite this, details of the cannibals and their past is unknown to players.
As the Ancient Ones, there are numerous theories revolving around the cannibal’s origins. A common belief among players is that the cannibals are merely an ancient tribe of people that fell victim to the obelisk’s power. The existence of rudimentary villages furthers this idea but onlySons of the Forestcan shed light on the matter.

3How Long Have The Cannibals/Mutants Existed?
The only relevant information regarding thecannibals and mutantsis their extensive presence on the peninsula. They even precede the earliest known settlers of the island, the Christian Missionaries. While this provides an estimate of the cannibals and mutant’s time on the peninsula they have been around longer.

The cannibals and mutants have ties to the Ancient Ones meaning they may be just as old. Few theories even suggest that they are descendants or followers of the Ancient Ones following an incident with the obelisks. Since then, they have presumably remained on the peninsula although onlySons of the Forestcan clarify this assumption.
2Are There More Artifacts?
Throughout the cavesofThe Forest, players can find various artifacts left by the Ancient Ones. These items or structures hold otherworldly powers to resurrect the dead, bring down planes, and control the cannibals/mutants. However, only a few of these items exist on the island leading players to wonder if more exist.
This belief has even led many to predict that a third obelisk exists deep within the peninsula’s caves. It is theoretically the death obelisk that is presumably responsible for the unnatural corpses throughout the caves. While this is merely an idea it does open the possibility for other artifacts left undiscovered.Sons of the Forestwill likely introduce many more of the Ancient One’s artifacts.

1Is It Only The Peninsula?
The peninsula is the sole locationplayers can exploreinThe Forest. To the knowledge of the player, this is the only place where the Ancient One, cannibals, and mutants exist. Even though this is a possibility it seems far too unlikely. In fact, the true ending ofThe Forestreveals that there may be another island like the peninsula.
On a map in a now-adult Timmy’s apartment, there is an area marked as Sahara Laboratory Site 2. This leads to the possibility ofSons of the Foresttaking place in this location. While merely a theory it may allude to there being many other places like the peninsula. Only whenSons of the Forestis released may this question finally be answered.
